The back-to-school rally on August 9 was exhilarating for RHS students and got them excited and hyped for the 2017-2018 school year.
The spirit rally on the first day of school consisted of fun activities including a fashion show put on by teachers to promote upcoming spirit days and talks with the student body to create enthusiasm for the upcoming year.
Kayla Jacklich, the ASB President, talked to the students about what they should expect from a fun-filled year and what she expects herself. “I expect more student involvement because we have been publicizing well. This will be one of the best years because we have so much planned.”
Many students started looking forward to the upcoming year after the rally.
Included in the audience was Dallas Waters, who is also a part of Leadership. “ The back-to-school rally got me super excited for the new year and the activities to come.”
The rally was especially important to the freshman because it was their first experience with the rest of the student body. It also helped them realized the importance of spirit including freshman Preston Alberti.
“Spirit is extremely important because if our school does not have spirit, we will not be able to work together and be successful.”
The rally demonstrated the many different activities available at Ripon High School, which helped them realize what their favorite part is about the year so far.
Sophomore Sam Brown’s favorite part about the year is his English teacher. “Mrs. Vasche is my favorite part because she lights up my day,” said Brown. “She gives me warmth through the rest of the hours of the day.”
While some relate the things they enjoy about the 2017-2018 school year to academics, others relate them to sports.
“The best part of the year for me is football. I love football,” Alberti said.
The back-to-school rally is greatly important for the freshman because it is their first year at RHS, while the other classes have high school experience.
Junior Gracyn Adolfson had advice for the freshman to help them succeed in their first year at high school.
“Get involved because everyone says that high school is going to flash before your eyes. It’s true. Now I am a junior, and I wish I was more involved.”
The rally also helped students realize what their goals are for this year.
“My goal is to have a year full of fun and success,” Waters said.
The rally allowed the whole student body to think about what this year will bring for them and what kind of person they are aiming to be. Jacklich, the ASB president, wanted to encourage everyone to be themselves. “Don’t follow the crowd. Be your own person. It makes life a lot more fun.”
