It started off rough for the Ripon varsity volleyball team losing the first set to Mountain House High School. However, Ripon ended it strong taking the game to four sets and winning.
The team was frustrated with their performance in the first set and it showed on every one of their faces, but they took that frustration to the next three games and used it to motivate themselves into picking up their performance.
“Their first game scared me, but in the end they pulled through,” said varsity head coach Erin Cutino.
The score of the first match was 21-25 Mountain House. Ripon took the second match 25-28. The second game was the same score of 25-18, Ripon yet again. Instead of going to five they kept it at four coming through in the last game with a closer score of 25-22, Ripon barely pulling to the top taking the game and claiming victory over Mountain House who since last year had improved their volleyball program.
There was no Freshman team, giving Ripon’s freshmen a break after winning two out of two games each against Ripon’s main rivals, Escalon, and Hilmar.
Ripon’s next home game will be on October 2, against Hughson High, freshman, JV, and varsity will all be playing the freshman game starting at 4:30.
