The Ripon High Indians stole a victory in their away game vs. Bret Harte on Thursday, October 19.  The Indians faced Bret Hart for a second time after a loss to them at the beginning of the season.

The Indians  got off to a good start with a score of 5-0 in the first quarter.  “The game against Bret Harte went really well.  We came out playing really aggressive defensively and making sure that we weren’t letting them get away with any easy passes,” senior Mallory Brubaker said. “Offensively, we were aware of who was open and not taking any wasted shots on the goal.”

Brubaker scored a total of five goals, had seven attempted shots on the goal, and two steals.

The Indians came out slower during the second quarter, giving the Bullfrogs three points.  However, the girls were able to come back on top with another four points, making the score 9-3.  “Our team had good defense and offensive plays,” said junior Amber Scheid, “We used what we have been working on in practice to execute and win.”

Scheid had four shots on the goal and two steals throughout the game.  She also won three out of four sprints during her game against the Bullfrogs and has won the most sprints this year.

The Indians were able to keep the Bullfrogs from earning any points throughout the remainder of the game, scoring two points in the second half.  The team ended with a score of 11-3.  

“We definitely have things that need to be improved on, but we have played them before, and I think that made us more prepared this time around,” said senior Elizabeth Wenner, who contributed to one steal for the Indians.

The RHS team managed to escape this game with a win, despite them being a young team.  “Our main goal is to just improve and get more skill as a team.  We are made up of mostly freshman so just gaining experience will be good for them,” Wenner added.

The girls will continue to practice during the remainder of the reason and their upcoming matches and reach for their future goals as a team.

Scheid states, “My goal is to work hard to beat Kimball to make history which can possibly secure us a spot in the section finals.”

The Indians will go on to play Kimball’s Jaguars away on Tuesday, October 24.  

“I’m making the most of what’s left of my senior season and final water polo moments,” Brubaker stated.
