This past Friday, October 25, Ripon High celebrated the Day of the Writer during lunch at the amphitheater for the fist time ever. The amphitheater was decorated by students’ art projects, which included the students’ works with a description of what and why they had created their pieces.
Some students got their lunch and then headed to the amphitheater. The students were motivated by their friends and the teacher, Mrs. Valponi. Students that had her were able to have a fabulous time and also earn some extra credit.
It was a great and interesting time. Students would read their pieces of writing, like Taylor Wilks, Michael R.A., and Courtney Slamon. While other students sang songs they had written, such as Michael Regalo and Gabrielle Spencer.
This was a great opportunity to learn and listen to each other’s writings. But if you were unable to make it this year, then hopefully you can next year.
Along with students sharing their writing and artwork, Day of the Writer also included the showcase of students’ secrets, which was inspired by the website PostSecrets.com, and allowed for students to say whatever they were too scared to say. Some of the secrets were funny while others were on the serious side.
If there is one thing we can take away from Day of the Writer, it is that writing is universal. It brings us together and should be encouraged. Go out and write!
