Christmas Traditions

As 2018 is coming to an end a few holidays are still left to celebrate. One of the most anticipated holidays is Christmas. This time of the year brings families and friends together and gives them an opportunity to share their traditions.

Everyone celebrating gets and gives presents, along with making a variety of foods and much more. However all these common traditions have a twist of their own which makes the traditions personal and important to every family celebrating.

Some families come together and bake or cook in the kitchen as a way to spend time and create memories with each other, along with celebrating the holidays.

“Every year on my mom’s side, we all make our homemade Christmas cookies by using Christmas cutters to make whatever shape cookies we want. After they are put in the oven and finished, we paint them with food coloring,” senior Alana Holland states.

Decorations also plays a major role preparing and getting into the Christmas spirit. Some families decorate their houses with lights as others set up Christmas trees with ornaments and lights.

“Every year my mom and I go to Duarte Nursery and pick out poinsettias,” Senior Janie Chapin said.

Christmas lights and figures brighten the holiday spirits with their sparkling colors.

Along with all other traditions the most important and waited on tradition for many is the opening of gifts Christmas morning. However, every family has their own unique way of executing this tradition.

Some families like senior Jodeci Zepeda’s, stay up all night and at midnight open their presents, as some families like senior Allison Coit’s wait on the staircase before being able to see their gifts in the living room.

At the end of this holiday it is the memories that last forever and are cherished by each and everyone and waited on to create again until next year. As the holidays of giving to one another come to an end, the count down to a new year begins.

“Christmas is the time you get to get together with your family and spend quality time with one another and are reminded of how grateful you are for them,” senior Lexi Hyer said, “
