Getting Organized in 2019
Cleaning is not always the most fun thing to do, but there are benefits to having a clean home, including your mental and physical health. With the Netflix show, Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, cleaning and organizing has become a big thing once again and has been motivating people to get their lives a bit cleaner.
A study by Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin found that women who felt disorganized had lower cortisol, a stress hormone that is linked to depression, anxiety and mood disorders. Having a cluttered home can drain your energy over time, as it is a reminder of all the things you have not finished or need to get done.
“When your home consists of piles of laundry, tasks and lists of things to do, it’s no wonder the cortisol sags. This not only spoils your peace, but it can trouble your sleep because the mind can’t settle down due to the incomplete tasks surrounding you,” beliefnet.com says.
Tips and Tricks
One thing that I like to do is watch shows or Youtube channels that talk about cleaning and organizing. They help provide ideas for my own home as well as make me want to have homes as nice as theirs.
The show that is popular at the moment is Tidying Up with Marie Kondo on Netflix. She uses the KonMari method, which she is a founder of, and goes to families to help them organize their homes.
The KonMari method is tidying by category instead of location. You start with clothes, then books, papers, miscellaneous things, and finish with the sentimentals.
“Keep only those things that speak to the heart, and discard items that no longer spark joy. Thank them for their service – then let them go,” konmari.com states.
A Youtuber I have watched for years, Brittany Vasseur, has a home, lifestyle, and organization channel where her goal is to inspire and motivate her viewers to live their best life. Vasseur has made videos on testing out home hacks and ideas where she gives her honest opinion and first impressions. She also has some of her own ideas that she incorporates and always makes sure to prove that they work.
Some videos she has made recently are “I Solve Your BIGGEST Organization Challenges”, “How to Organize ANYTHING in 5 Steps: The NEAT Method”, and “12 Cleaning Hacks for Lazy People!”
Another resource that is always one of my go to’s is Pinterest. It is a fairly easy website and app to get around and it is organized in itself. Being able to have different boards that you get to tailor to yourself and choose what you get to put on it is really helpful.
With Pinterest being around for so long, there are countless cleaning and organization tips as well as endless inspiration for your home.
