4th Quarter Shutout Leads Indians to Playoff Comeback

Round 1 Division 5 Playoffs

Guess what Ripon High? The Indians made the playoffs! With a 4-6 record, they’re the 8th seed in Division V and will host the Rosemont Wolverines Nov. 4 to try and add another blue banner for Ripon High.

Rosemont started the game with the ball and marched down the field, which ultimately led to a Wolverines touchdown with a successful two point try. The next score would not be until the second quarter, again with another Wolverines touchdown. The Indians got the ball, continued to move the ball down the field and scored their first, but the Wolverines answered back. Going into halftime Rosemont was up 24 to 7.

Coming out of the locker room, it looked like a whole different Ripon football team, as each team both scored. Rosemont missed the extra point, making it 30-14 going into the fourth quarter. With the season on the line, junior quarterback Ty Herrin led the Indians to 28 points with two consecutive touchdown drives, cutting the lead to only two points. After giving Rosemont the ball back and then a punt by the Wolverines, the Indians went to work. With 53 seconds left on the clock, the Indians drove down the field, and after an explosive run by junior running back Xzavier Clark, the Indians were on Rosemont’s side of the field. In the final moments of the game, Herrin takes the snap, finding Clark in the endzone with 5.8 seconds left on the clock, touchdown to the Indians! The Indians pulled off an amazing comeback to win the game 35 to 30, and will advance to the next round of playoffs.

After a terrific win by the Indians, Ripon will travel to Sutter to take on the Huskies in a 2019 Division IV-AA CIF NorCal Championship rematch at 7 p.m.
