Two athletes from Ripon High are selected by leadership once a month to acknowledge their excellence and drive in their sport through the honorary title, “Athlete of the Month.”
The first athlete, senior Jaycee Wilmshurst, is a center outfielder for varsity softball who has played on the RHS team all four years of highschool. There are many aspects to softball that Wilmshurst enjoys, like playing with her friends and the people she grew up with. Overall, she truly loves every aspect of being a senior on the team.
She says, “Being a senior on the team, I can be a role model for the younger players.”
Wilmshurst goes on to detail her fond memories of the sport like winning TVL the last two years.
Ripon High’s next athlete of the month is outfield varsity baseball player, senior Renzo Garcia. He appreciates this award deeply, especially when reflecting on his hard work as a player throughout all four years and finally feeling like he has gotten the recognition he deserves.
Garcia says, “I’ve put in years of work and it’s finally starting to pay off.”
He also mentions that out of all the years he has been playing baseball, this is his most successful and skilled year yet.
This month’s athletes couldn’t be more suited for the title and we can’t wait to see what else they go on to accomplish throughout the rest of their seasons.
