One of the best things about football season for us players isn’t always playing under the lights Friday nights, but having team dinner together the night before. Team dinner is probably one of the main highlights for most players during the season because of team bonding, making skits, and eating great food. These dinners mean a lot to us players and with them we were able to bond together as a unit and just have a good time.
The best part of team dinners is probably the skits we make to poke fun of eachother. Groups of us take turns weekly to create skits which can be about anything with the only requirement being they have to be funny. So far this year we’ve seen some funny skits from Darney Mack rapping about the team, Angelio Bacciaco doing his best Coach Velasco impersonation, Hertej’s awesome touchdown dance, and even myself becoming a news reporter under the alias “Lucciano Gonzalez.” During the skits it’s an all out war of jokes, but at the end of the night we just laugh it all off without any hurt feelings and it’s something real special that only a close team can do.
When asked about team dinners Nick Price commented,”It gives us a time to get away from football and relax.”
Team dinner wouldn’t be complete without the delicious food. On Thursday everyone is asking what’s for dinner and looking forward to devouring food. All kinds of food is served at team dinners such as BBQ, Mexican, and pasta. After players eat dinner and down several gatorades each it’s dessert time. Dessert can be anything from exotic pastries to the simple, but always delicious chocolate chip cookies. The best dessert this season has been the amazing victory cupcakes Mrs. Valponi made for us. After dinner and dessert it’s time for skits.
“We’re going to remember the little things like team dinners the most in the end,” said Javi Hernandez about team dinners.
