On Thursday the Freshman traveled to Calaveras to face the Redskins and defeated them with a score of 19-8. The Indians are now 2-1 in league and have an overall record of 3-6.
The Indians were led by Wing Nick Myers and fullback Nathan Morrow on offense. Both backs had impressive touchdown runs against a physical Calaveras defense which propelled the Indians past the Redskins. Donnie Fontillas also scored a touchdown for the Indians. The Redskins couldn’t handle the run attack of Ripon all night.
Ripon’s defense came up big in this one by only allowing a single touchdown on defense against a Calaveras team known for it’s offense.
“We came out strong and got the W,” said lineman Mitchell Ulrich,”We created holes for the backs and let them execute.”
Ripon plays rival Escalon next week at home in what will be a pivotal game for the Indians if they wish to keep in the TVL league title run. The rivalry between the two programs is a great one, and hopefully the freshman game will be a thriller to lead into Friday’s games where Escalon hosts both the Ripon Varsity team and the JV team.
