Day after day, students complain about the amount of homework they get and how it’s a struggle to even finish it. However, while most American students may not believe it, their homework load is all but nothing compared to those of other countries.
The fact is that the average American student has about 4.9 hours worth of homework to do weekly. When compared to the students in Shanghai, the work load seemed all but obsolete. The average Shanghai student spends around 14.6 hours a week doing homework and other take home activities given by schools. This time average has left Shanghai students as what most would call, the most committed students in the world.
“It’s amazing what they do over there. What’s even more amazing is the fact that they have such committed students who are willing to do the work”, says Ben Safford, a local Statistics Professor at Brown University, who took part in the international analysis. Shanghai students currently lead in the number of hours with Russia closely following behind.
