The Occupational Olympics is an event where every local ROP program competes in their field of education with other schools. My friend, Victoria and I paired up for the Cosmetology category. I was her model for the theme of “Wild Western.” These Olympics are held once a year at the Turlock Fairgrounds and is known for allowing students to show their talents in their chosen careers.
With weeks of practice, Victoria and I had everything ready for the competition; hair, make up, costume and our timing. We arrived to the fairgrounds around 7 in the morning on a Wednesday with my hair pinned and make up done. Along with the other contestants, we entered our stations and the stylists prepared their models. They were given an hour to do the models hair and touch up make up if needed.
Once the hour was over, the judges walked around and took notes on all the models. That was a little nerve wrecking. Then we all ate lunch and waited until the results were announced. My partner and I won second place and received a medal. It was a great experience and it was very interesting to see the different techniques other of the students used in their projects.
