Yordano Ventura, a very honored baseball pitcher for the Kansas City Royals, dies in tragic car accident in the Dominican Republic early Sunday on the 22 of January. He was only 25.
The Royals nicknamed him “Ace” as a reference to the movie “Ace Ventura”. The Royals always saw him as someone who would blossom into an elite pitcher.
Eric Hosmer, the Royals’ first baseman, posted a picture on Instagram with Ventura which was titled, “ACE I love you my brother. I am in disbelief and don’t know what to say. I love you ACE.”
Some of his other teammates including pitcher Danny Duffy and infielder Christian Colon visited Kauffman Stadium and shared time with some fans to honor and remember Ventura.
Royals’ general manager Dayton Moore says, “He’s always had a zest for life, an innocence about the game, a freshness, and a fearlessness.”
Dominican authorities told Moore that Ventura had been driving in heavy fog at the time and was not wearing a seatbelt.
Ventura had a 38-31 record and a 3.89 earned run average in his four years with the Royals. He had been a starting player for nine postseason games, including seven scoreless innings in Game 6 of the 2014 World Series against the San Francisco Giants.
Ventura is also known for honoring his fellow athletes Oscar Taveras and Jose Fernandez by writing their initials and numbers on his game hat.
