On January 28, 2017, the Ripon High Girls’ Basketball Team participated in the 7th Annual Hoops for the Cure Classic against the East Union Lancers. Each year, the game is played in alternating cities. Next year, it will be played at Ripon High School.
All proceeds for this event are donated to the local chapter of “Triple Step Towards a Cure” who give the money to local women and their families in need. Last year, the event raised over $8,000, the most to date.
All three girls’ basketball teams participated in the event. The teams put together baskets to be auctioned off during the event. The event featured raffles, silent auctions, items for sale, face painting, and a photo booth.
Before the varsity game, a check for last year’s proceeds was presented to the representatives of “Triple Step Towards a Cure.” This was followed by a recognition of honorees (cancer survivors). Members of the varsity teams for Ripon High School and East Union High School escorted the honorees onto the court.
The East Union varsity team was coached by Jim Agostini who started this event with the previous Ripon High School coach George Contente 7 years ago. Our varsity team was coached by Rick Inderbitzin.
The RHS freshman won, while the JV and varsity East Union Lancers won.
