On February 19, the Ripon Sober Grad Committee held their 2017 Senior Fashion Show, a yearly tradition that celebrates seniors who resist alcohol and work their hardest within their school.
“Many Seniors want the opportunity to model in our annual Fashion Show, our tribute to the seniors with a night honoring them. This is a special show just for those who have worked hard for Ripon Sober Grad and shown their community spirit.” The Ripon Sober Grad Committee wrote on their website.
The Ripon High Multipurpose room was filled with lights, loud music, and free condiments such as cookies and cupcakes. Raffle tickets were being sold for raffle baskets as well.
When the program started, Stephanie Bailey gave an introduction to the show, followed by Savannah Clark singing the national anthem.
Afterward, graduating seniors showed up in shining dresses and tuxedos, with the tuxedos having been donated by multiple companies and people. Each student couple was introduced by their name, hobbies, most memorable high school moment, their plans for the future, their advice to incoming freshmen, and the names of their parents.
Once on stage, the students (one boy and one girl) would go and dance onstage while showing off their attire. 21 student couples went onstage, with a total of 42 seniors drawing attention to their wear.
Two intermissions were put in the middle, in which the raffle prizes would be awarded. The most prominent, however, was the prom package, given at the end, which gave two prom tickets and more in a package worth approximately $500.
As the finale, after the prom package was presented, all 42 seniors went on stage for a final show of their clothing, with balloons falling down from the ceiling.
The Ripon Sober Grad Committee ended by stating, “None of this is possible without all of you. Thank you for making this show such a huge success!”
