The smiley face we all recognize riding around in her golf cart is Maria Griffin, campus supervisor, and “Mom of the School”. Maria’s objective in her job is to build relationships with students. She says, “if I was a parent at this school I wouldn’t want a supervisor that just nags and punishes my kid”. Griffin, instead, wants to be the person teens can talk to.
When asked about her nickname, “Mom of the School”. She smiled in delight. She loves her nickname and says it makes her feel like she has been doing her job correctly. Maria wants students to come to her with anything, to talk, to get a pad, and even to get lotion.
Maria approaches discipline in a non-traditional way. We are at school to learn, so we shouldn’t, solely, be punished for wrongdoings. Maria thinks that we should be told when we are wrong and given a chance to correct our mistakes. She thinks this is the best way to enforce rules upon teens.
Maria has a husband and two kids. Raising her two children has given her experience in dealing with kids. She loves being active with her family, in her free time. Walking her dog with her sons is one of her favorite activities.
“I love my job and am proud to work here, I can’t imagine working anywhere else”, said Griffin.
