Ripon High’s JV softball team took an 11- 4 win over Ceres on Thursday, March 16. Last season, Ripon lost to Ceres 11 to 1. Fortunately for Ripon, this season holds new opportunities for Ripon High’s JV Softball team.
Second baseman, Hailey Nussbaumer, played a great game going 2-4 with a homerun and a double. She grounded a hard ball that was hit to her at great speed. The Ceres teammate in the box did not stand a chance as Nussbaumer threw it to first base getting the girl out. Her successful play helped Ripon escape a bad inning.“It was a solid hit that I felt as soon as I made contact,” said Hailey Nussbaumer, “It was a great feeling.”
Ripon’s JV softball team has many friendships. There is no drama, and that transfers onto the field. “We’re really good at backing each other up,” said Halie Rines, “although we could communicate more.”
Sophomore Avery Thomason also had a great catch, along with freshman Myra Toledo and her sister, Bianca Toledo, who had a great game catching the pitcher, Araceli Gonzalez.
“She had a good game and hit her spots,” said Bianca Toledo towards Araceli Gonzalez. “I went 1-2 with a base hit, but we could still improve on getting more base hits. Our defense is great.”
Sophomore Avery Thomason says, “Our varsity team is going to be really strong. We are good at backing up our pitcher and getting on base. We’re already doing better than we did last year.”
