Freshman Sydney Thomason rocks her Crocs at school

Trends are a really big part of teenagers’ lives. Teens are constantly feeling pressured to follow trends and conform to popular culture from their peers. Some popular trends on campus are Crocs, hydro flasks, and Birkenstocks.

One trend that has become very popular at Ripon High is Hydroflasks. The campus is covered with students carrying their sticker-covered hydro flask.

“I think hydro flasks are the most popular for sure,” said sophomore Molly Ysit “ One person probably had a Hydroflask and it just grew more”.

Another trend that has become wildly popular at Ripon High are Crocs. Many people are wondering why “the most polarizing shoe of our time is making a comeback,” according to The Washington Post. Crocs have been seen all over campus especially on student-athletes in between games. Ripon High even has an Instagram page to show all of the students wearing Crocs.

One student who frequently wears Crocs is freshman Sydney Thomason.

“I got Crocs because they are comfortable and easy to put on,” said Thomason. She said that she likes to wear them after P.E. and in between basketball or volleyball games.

The last trend that has been huge this year is Birkenstocks. Birkenstocks are owned by a huge majority of Ripon High students. One trend that is seen especially at Ripon High School is wearing the Birkenstocks with socks.

These are just three of the many trends that are popular in teenage culture. Trends in makeup and clothing are very popular as well.

“I like to look at makeup trends and like clothing trends because it’s cool to see other people’s styles and partake in them if I like them,” says freshman Kylie Wolf.

The reason teens follow trends partially due to peer pressure.

“I think that teens feel pressured to follow trends because it’s how they fit in,” explains Thomason.

“This generation is really focused on how you look and how other people look at you, which makes you want to be cool and fit in,” said Wolf when asked why teens feel the need to follow trends.
