The New Handheld PC
The SteamDeck, a new handheld console being produced by Valve Corp., is on it’s way to becoming the newest breakthrough in modern gaming. It’s scheduled to be released in December 2021 and will run from $399- $649 depending on the favored SD storage size. The console features a 7-inch LCD screen display and runs on the SteamOS 3.0 operating system. One of the many features of the SteamDeck is that it will be able to dock to a TV or monitor, similar to the Nintendo Switch, and will also be able to support up to 8K resolution.
“I really like the advantages that come with the new SteamDeck console. I’m really excited to try it out. It’s like a combination of a bunch of different gaming consoles put into one, pretty cool,” said Connor Padilla, senior.
The SteamDeck console is a compact, handheld console that brings all of your favorite Steam games from your desktop to a portable console you can play on the go. It has all the features of a full desktop PC in the size of a Nintendo Switch. For it’s quite large price tag starting at $399, it will be able to perfectly handle all Steam games and larger titles with ease. Not only is it just handheld, the SteamDeck will also be able to connect to a docking station that will connect to TV and Monitors. You will even be able to connect keyboards and mice to it after it is docked.
“With all of the SteamDeck’s features and affordability compared to a regular PC, I think it will outsell other consoles like the Nintendo Switch,” said Edward Tavizon, Senior.
The console is expected to come out in December 2021. It is expected to be a very successful release. Steam has proven to be a very successful platform over the years and this console is just one of the many breakthroughs for the system.
“Steam also has really good sales on games while Nintendo hardly ever has them, games made 3 years ago are still 60 dollars!” Edward exclaimed.
