Childhood Dreams
We’ve all had childhood dreams and aspirations as young children, then we grow up and maybe those dreams change. Some people know that they want to be a firefighter from age five and grow up to be one, however in many cases, that’s not how it plays out.
“When I was little I wanted to be a firefighter because I thought they were heroes and I wanted to be someone’s hero,” said Reed Holland, junior.
Many kids grow up and want to be helpful heroes and some want to do a variety of things with that title, whether it be doctor, nurse, or firefighter. Holland now wants to be a surgeon, in hopes to still help people, but not in the firefighter setting. Some people will grow up and still have the aspiration to help others, just in different ways.
Others may be more interested in becoming a professional athlete such as Devin Fitzpatrick, a sophomore at Ripon High who wanted to be on the 49er football team.
“My mom cheered for the niners and we’ve always been fans so I thought it’d be cool to play for them as a kid,” said Fitzpatrick, sophomore.
A lot of children when they are young aspire to be in the NFL, NBA, or more, however, these aspirations don’t tend to be reached in the long run for an end career. Although, for Fitzpatrick, he does still intend on getting a scholarship for track to college, but to also get a degree in business or economics.
“When I was little I really wanted to be a doctor because I had seen them on TV and thought they were cool […] entering highschool I realized I would better fit as an engineer though,” said Anthony Sausedo, senior.
Evidently, childrens’ dreams and aspirations change over time as we start to grow up and find real passions in life. We all experience growth and change over time. Some will grow to become more fond of their childhood dream and end up pursuing it. Others will grow out of their childhood dreams and take a completely different route.
