Real Friends or Real-ly Fake Friends?

For many highschool students, friends are a big part of the highschool experience. They get us through the hardships of highschool, and make it all worthwhile. Most friendships are formed in high school, while the rare few stay really close with their elementary school friends all throughout their highschool years. Some of Ripon High’s longtime friends were asked a few questions, to see just how well they really know each other.

A pair of seniors, Caleb Johnston and Colin Speed, have been close friends since the 8th grade. They both went to Ripon Elementary, and have stayed really close through sports and activities. When conducting a test to see how well these pairs really know each other, Caleb was asked, “What is Colin’s dream college?” and replied with, “Fresno State.” When asked the same question, Colin replied with the same answer. These two boys have done almost every sport together and have really bonded over the years.

“I’ve had a great friend to lean back on. It’s like I’ve gained another brother. He’s my big buddy!” says Caleb Johnston, Senior.

Another pair of students, Mackenzie Loechler and Gabby Delgado, are juniors at Ripon High. They went to Ripon Elementary together, and although they are focusing on different things and going in different directions, they still make time for each other and have stayed close. When running a test to see just how good of friends this pair actually is, Mackenzie was asked, “What is Gabby’s dream career?” and she replied with, “A lawyer but like in the military field.” This is exactly what Gabby answered with, when asked that same question.

“It’s nice knowing she’s always there for me through the thick and thin even if we aren’t always together […] We can go a while without talking and still be super close and it’s like no time has passed at all.” says Mackenzie Loechler, junior.

The last pair of students are freshmen, Anden Ries and Calvin Ryans. They did not attend the same elementary school, but they have stayed really close throughout the years because their families are close and they do sports together. When conducting the same test to see how well the pairs know each other, Calvin was asked, “Who is Anden’s favorite football player?” Calvin replied with, “Nick Bosa.” This was not the answer Anden had given, which was actually Baker Mayfield. Maybe they aren’t such good friends after all…

“I have kept Anden so close because not a lot of people care about me, and it means a lot to know that he does.” says Calvin Ryans, freshman.

Good friends will always be there for you regardless of the circumstances. It is important to find those friends, and hold them close in your heart.

“Friends are important because everyone needs a person to lean on and be there for them. They can cure your boredom and you can make memories that will last forever.” says Gabby Delgado, junior.
