La Gran Senora Ochoa

Senora Ochoa is a first year Spanish teacher at Ripon High. She started out as a sub and then decided to become a Spanish teacher.

Ochoa started subbing 5 years ago and when she began she realized she really liked the environment. She enjoyed subbing and the schedule it had and thought it was the best situation for her family. Her sister, Laura Ochoa, actually really pushed her to become a sub and a teacher. When Ochoa first figured out that Ripon High needed service she decided to give it a try and she ended up really enjoying it.

“My first year teaching has been really great. I really love my kids. And I’m not just pretending and saying that for the interview. I think I got really lucky with a group of kids that I got this year. They’re really special.”

Ochoa chose to teach Spanish over any of the other academics because she thinks it’s important to know two languages. It is also very interesting for her to watch the students learn throughout the year. We can also see by her teaching that she loves her culture and wants to spread it to her students.

“The fact that changes happen to your brain while learning Spanish and how you become more of a complex thinker, so if I could learn a second language right now,  if I had the time I would learn Italian because it’s so close to Spanish. I think there needs to be more language options and not just Spanish itself, it’s a language to get all together.”

Being a first year teacher for Ochoa has been really fun but her favorite thing about it is being silly with her students. She doesn’t care about what anyone has to think and she will totally be cheesy because she loves it. She just wants to bring that energy to her students in the classroom. [sno-poll id=”13516″ result_color=”#bf0d0d” tile_color=”#ffffff” align=”left” background=”on” background_color=”” border=”all” border_color=”#888888″ border_size=”1px” shadow=”on”]
