Movie Review: The Batman

Released on March 4th of this year, The Batman has proved itself to be yet another fantastic installment in the Batman franchise and has a promising future within the DCEU. Although being compared to other iterations of the character such as the Dark Knight’s Christian Bale or Justice League’s Ben Affleck, Robert Pattinson’s Batman is played extremely well and exceeds expectations from fans and critics alike. The introduction of an experienced and worn down Bruce Wayne is something that the other iterations never showed before, so the new portrayal of the character is a fresh breath of air and give us a glimpse at a new side to the Dark Knight. Although the movie was hit with critique’s even before it’s release about how it would flop, The Batman smashed the box office with a whopping 750 million dollars and received a strong 85% and 8.3/ 10 review rating from Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb.

The Batman shows audiences a worn Bruce Wayne that attempts to alleviate the corruption and crime from Gotham. In the midst of the Chaos, a maniacal killer runs loose, killing off highly important figures within the city. Known as the Riddler, the killer brands his own definition of justice on the “liars” within Gotham, and doesn’t mind taking innocent lives in the process. Along with Commissioner Gordon, Alfred, and the mysterious Selina Kyle, Batman must decipher the intricate and cryptic clues that the Riddler leaves in order to take the culprit down and save the city from his reign of terror.

“The Batman was a great movie, I personally believe that it can even contend with the Dark Knight Trilogy and Christian Bale’s portrayal of the character. It has a great atmosphere and the mystery element within it makes it really interesting to watch.”, said Nick Camper. Senior.

What makes The Batman so great is the fact that it was able to bring all these different elements together, the mystery, the action, the drama, and it was absolutely perfect. Another great thing about this movie are the villains and the way that they were adjusted to fit with this much darker version of Gotham. For example, Paul Dano replacing Jim Carrey as the Riddler. Dano makes the typically underwhelming villain and makes him terrifying. This also applies to characters such as Colin Farrell’s Penguin, another villain that was turned from just another Batman goon into an intimidating mob boss. All of the elements presented to us with this movie is truly what makes it great. With the next installment coming between now and 2027, it seems that we will have to wait much longer for the new era of Batman to continue.
