Nine Ripon Athletes Medal at Sacramento Meet of Champions

All nine Indian athletes medaled at the Sacramento Meet of Champions against top athletes in California last week. The RHS contenders competed at the track and field meet on April 23 after qualifying based on their seasonal bests. This was the first time Ripon was represented in this annual meet.

 Both boys and girls 4×400 meter relay teams placed bronze. The boys team, consisting of all seniors: Jaden Hamilton, Jack Manning, Norberto Quintero and Anthony Sausedo, ran 3 minutes 32.74 seconds. The girls team, consisting of junior Annie Wild, sophomore Jenna Skavdahl, and freshmen Emily Paxton and Starla Skiles, ran 4 minutes 10.69 secondsa personal record (PR) of nine seconds for the team! 

Sausedo placed gold in the 300 meter hurdles with 38.97 seconds. This was an amazing accomplishment for Ripon High. He also ran the 110 meter hurdles in 15.36 seconds. Sausedo was the only athlete from Ripon to run in the second half of the meet, the Invitational.

 Gabby Delgado, junior, placed bronze in both discus and shot put. She threw 33 feet 4.5 inches in shot put and 104 feet 4 inches in dicus. Wild ran the 3200 meter run with a personal best of 11 minutes 35.42 seconds, earning a bronze medal. Skavdahl sprinted a 1 minute 0.99 second 400 meter dash. This was a 0.26 second personal record! The boys 4×100 meter relay worked collectively, ending the race in 44.63 seconds.
