Dark VS Milk VS White Chocolate

A little too much chocolate is just about the right amount. The holidays are coming and students at RHS are ready to eat more sweets than ever. One of the top sweets and arguments many students have is which type of chocolate is the best to eat. Many say, White, Dark, or Milk Chocolate, while others highly dislike all of them because they’re either allergic to them or it’s not healthy to them at all.

“To be honest I’m not a fan of either, I really only like Milk Chocolate, I don’t like the taste of dark or white. It depends too, I’m not a big fan of chocolate, I just like the basic stuff,” said Emma Mendoza, junior.

Scientists say dark chocolate contains 50-90% cocoa solids, cocoa butter, and sugar. Milk chocolate contains anywhere from 10-50% cocoa solids, cocoa butter, milk in some form, and sugar. Though dark chocolate should not contain milk. They also state “Cocoa is rich in plant chemicals called flavonoids that may help to protect the heart (…) flavanols have been shown to support the production of nitric oxide in the endometrium (the inner cell lining of blood vessels) that helps to relax the blood vessels and improve blood flow, thereby lowering blood pressure.”

“My favorite is dark chocolate since the white chocolate upsets my stomach, honestly I like eating chocolate when I’m upset or when I need to relax.” Hudson Worden, senior.

RHS students have gone trick or treating this Halloween, Americans buy 90 million pounds of chocolate during the week of Halloween. Although last year, 268.09 million Americans consumed chocolate in 2020. When it comes to the league of the consummation of chocolates around the globe, Switzerland is out in front with an annual 8.8 kilograms. Chocolate is not only a true investment in the United States but the whole world.
