Splashing into the Season

With the start of the spring season, we are also seeing the launch of spring sports at Ripon High school. The Ripon High swim team has dove into a challenging season and are excited to show their rivals what they’ve got! On Friday, March 4, the swim team will compete at the first meet of the season against Oakdale. Oakdale is the team’s biggest competition this season, and in order to beat them, the swimmers will have to place first in events and gain points for Ripon to take home a win!

Ripon’s freshman, Tiffani Hunter, is really excited to compete at her first high school meet and has some goals for this season.

“I am really excited for my freshman season and this upcoming meet because a lot of my friends are doing it and I also have my two sisters to compete against and I cannot wait to see if my times have improved from my last swim meet,” says Tiffani Hunter, freshman swimmer.

The boys swim team has some really excited boys as well. The boys swim team is made up of almost all freshmen, and seeing as the majority of them played water polo for RHS together last fall, they have some big goals as a team.

“Our goal is to win. Me and the boys want to win sections again. We did it together before, and I know we can do it again,” says Ben Rogers, freshman swimmer.

As much as the freshmen are excited to compete, so are Ripon’s seniors! They have gotten seasons and opportunities taken from them because of COVID, and are very excited to have their first season in a while without any regulations.

“I am excited for this season because I have all the people I played with for waterpolo by my side for swim season and I am just really excited to see what goals I can achieve,” says Kennedy Brubaker, senior swimmer.

Some sports are strictly a game, however, for some, swimming is so much more.

“Swimming is so fun because of my friends. They are my family. I love being around them and they make the whole experience that much better.” says Samantha Schied, sophomore swimmer.
