Anthony Sausedo: “Athlete of the Week”

After placing 3rd alongside Varsity Boys at the Track and Field meet on Saturday, March 5, Ripon High senior Anthony Sausedo has been recognized in the Manteca Bulletin as the new “Athlete of the Week.” Sausedo was specifically recognized for being a great asset and helping the team place 3rd out of the 21 teams who competed.

Saturday’s meet marked the 13th annual Dean Andreessen Classic in Merced where Sausedo excelled in many events on the track. He represented RHS alongside senior teammates Jack Manning, Jaden Hamilton, and Norberto Quintero, where they competed in the 4×100 relay and finished in an outstanding 45 seconds. He went on to compete in two other events, such as the 300 meter hurdles where he now holds the third-fastest time in the Sac-Joaquin Section and is ranked No. 1 in Division V; then, the 110 hurdles where he placed 5th. Sausedo’s efforts went above and beyond, helping the RHS Varsity Boys team finish with 68 total points.

I never really thought about doing Track until I got into high-school and saw the opportunity. I was initially surprised at how much I enjoyed it and it ended up being my favorite thing outside to do out of school.

— Anthony Sausedo

Sausedo has competed in Track and Field since his freshman year and describes his favorite part to be bonding with his teammates. He hopes to be able to continue the sport at the next level if the opportunity arises in the near future. Sausedo isn’t just a great asset to the Track and Field team, but he also participates in numerous extracurricular activities and clubs at RHS. He is part of the Basketball team, ASB Leadership, Link Crew, vice president of CSF, and he excels in all his AP and Honors classes.

“I was honestly surprised because this was something I never expected to occur,” describes Sausedo. “I was just really happy as it was something I had never done before.”

The Track and Field season is just getting started and Anthony Sausedo hopes to be able to improve further as his final high school season moves forward.

“I definitely think I could have done better but I’m still very proud of what I accomplished being recognized as Athlete of the Week,” he says.
