Are you a student-athlete? If so, you know how hard it can be to juggle so many things at once, but if you are not, this article can give you an inside point of view of how difficult it can be to manage a schedule as a student-athlete. They have to keep up with school, attend their sports commitments, whether it is a practice or a game, do homework, and some even have the ability to keep jobs as well. Believe it or not, they manage to do this all in one day, every day of the week.

Ty Herrin a student-athlete here that plays football, basketball, and golf has a very busy schedule throughout the whole year. He gets to school, goes to his games or practices, and then when he gets home he does all his homework and studies for the next day. Although it is very hard to juggle so many things at once, student-athletes need to know that academics are the most important.

“School comes before everything,” says Herrin, sophomore.

Anden Ries who is involved in football and track loves being a student-athlete because of all the new connections he makes through the programs he is involved in but says it can be difficult at times for several different reasons.

“All the extra work you have to do at home because you often have to miss certain classes due to athletics. Being a student-athlete also really messes with your sleep schedule because you have to maintain that extra work and schedule. Those are probably the most difficult parts about being a student-athlete for me personally,” says Ries, freshman.

Gabby Delgado does track and field as well as basketball, she also has a job working at Dutch Bros that she somehow manages to fit into her schedule of being a student-athlete. She wakes up every morning at 5:45, and goes to sports conditioning and school. Once she gets out of school she does a little homework, goes to her sports practice or game, and then goes to work. She will try to do a little more homework and then go to bed around 11:30.

“Sometimes it can be challenging with time management but I think it is beneficial because being a student-athlete can prepare you for the future and keep you busy and out of trouble,” says Delgado, junior.

As you can see there are many pros and cons overall of being a student-athlete. Although it can be tough at times, many of these athletes would say they think it is benefitting them much more than it is hurting them and they wouldn’t change a thing.

“Although it’s tough at times, I enjoy having this busy schedule because you can have fun playing sports with your friends and grind by doing hard work,” said Herrin.
