Club Spotlight: Estudiantes Unidos

Estudiantes Unidos is a club run by students who want to highlight the hispanic population on campus. The club has had a successful year creating events to bring together all students of Latin culture and to help showcase the different Spanish Speaking countries as a whole community.

The club has helped the community in many different ways throughout the year. For volunteer service the club has gotten to do service at the recycling center. To fundraise, the club came through with spooky grams during October for halloween. During lunch you would be able to purchase spooky grams for a staff member or student on campus.

The club is really about the community and bringing different Latin cultures together. We have students from Mexico, Spain, El Salvador, and more. It’s really about being together, being united, and helping our community.

Estudiantes Unidos has had multiple highlight events throughout the year. In April the group went together for a trip to Santa Cruz where they were able to visit the UC Santa Cruz campus. The trip then followed with a stop at the Santa Cruz boardwalk where the students were able to play beach volleyball together and venture around for some bonding time.

“My favorite event this year was the Santa Cruz trip where we were able to walk around the UC Santa Cruz campus and then later bond at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk,” stated Club president Nestor Baltierra.

To celebrate “5 de Mayo”, the club came together to have a dance during lunch. Anyone could stop by the amphitheater at lunch to see the dance the club had made that featured familiar faces such as Jose Navarro, Juan Andres Stum, Joana Martinez, Xitaly Martinez, Melanie Martinez, and Javier Cuen. The event later followed with a dance anyone could participate in and join in to learn called “El Caballo Dorado”. Throughout the whole event students who participated or came along to watch, could stop by to grab some delicious “aguas frescas” offered by the club as well.

“The cinco de mayo event was a good event. We got to show different cultures to other people. We also got to show the different dances we have and dance in our cultures,” Vice President Jose Navarro, said.

If interested in joining the club the following 2022-23 school year you can communicate with teacher advisor, Mrs. Stum, or current club president Nestor Baltierra and Vice president Jose Navarro for more information on what the club is really about.
