Ripon High School girls’ soccer team is ready to make a statement this year during the 2018-2019 season. Before the season has even started, the soccer team has already taken the soccer world by storm.

On June 21, Ripon High girls’ soccer team and their coach were nominated for two awards at the Best of the Record Ceremony. The team was nominated for the ‘Girls’ Team of the Year’ against all of the other girl sports teams in the county.

Coach Meyer also made Ripon High School proud when received the nomination for the ‘Girls’ Coach of the Year.’

Only four coaches and teams were nominated, narrowing down the competition.

Arena full of excitement and anticipation, Ripon High soccer team patiently waited for their nominations. Although the team did not win, the girls, coach, parents, and supporters were beyond honored to attend against the best teams.

“I think the nomination was definitely due to us going to state, so more of a reflection on our accomplishments,” Coach Meyer proudly states.

With the recognition the team has received the past year and with all their accomplishments, they expect a bigger crowd at tryouts. Of course the sports is still taken seriously and expects a large amount of dedication.

“My hope is that it attracts more people to want to play, however at the same time I hope that it’s a first choice sport,” Meyer says.

“Hopefully more people will be excited to watch and more people will come out to support,” mentioned by Ashley Pugh, the varsity keeper.

One award however , was won by a Ripon High nomination. Nicole Meyer took home the ‘Girls’ Coach of the Year’ award. Meyer led her team to take the victory in the CIF V Regional Championship, and after taking second place in the Nor-Cal D4 state championship game.

“I was extremely shocked, especially going against division one coaches who have been coaching for years. It was definitely an honor and it was bragging rights against my sister who is also a coach,” Meyer laughs.

Not only was Meyer honored, but so were her players who were ecstatic.

“I love Meyer. When she got the award I was like “It’s Meyer! Meyer did it! She deserves this! I’m just so excited for her, and very proud,” said by Devaney Dougherty.

“I do think it’s a good confidence booster and being recognized for all the hard work we put into the team,” Meyer said.
