Review: Black Mirror: Bandersnatch
Black Mirror is a show that has been on Netflix since 2011. On December 28, 2018, a movie came out that followed the TV series. This movie was one of the few that allows you to make decisions during the film. I watched this myself, and although I have never seen the show, the movie, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch was really good. I really like how you have the option to choose what happens, and it has a good storyline.
Bandersnatch is a movie about a teen boy that transforms a novel into reality. Throughout the film, you are greeted with two choices- one of them leads to another event, and the other can eventually bring you back if you keep making the wrong choice. This idea is fairly new to Netflix, with only a few other interactive shows and movies like Minecraft: Story Mode, and Stretch Armstrong: The Breakout. Personally, I like this idea because it gives you a lot more control over what you want to happen. Everyone who does the movie can possibly have a different story, depending on what you choose, and there are many different endings, which is very unique.
When I was watching this, I could make a comparison to life. In life, we are always faced with choices, and you should always try to choose the right thing so nothing bad happens. However, choosing the wrong thing can lead to even worse things, just like in the movie.
Throughout watching Bandersnatch, there were some things I really enjoyed, but there were a few things I didn’t like about it. On the positive side, the movie doesn’t get boring and I really like how there are so many choices and endings. You can redo it as much as you want and it can be different every time, which is really cool. There isn’t much on the negative side, but the only thing I don’t like is that some choices are really spread out. You can choose one thing and wait another ten minutes until something else happens, which can get a little annoying at times.
Overall, I would totally recommend watching this movie by yourself, or even in a group of friends. I did it with a small group of friends, and everyone else liked it a lot too. It’s a good thing to do if you ever get bored or if you just like to watch movies. Out of five stars, I would give it four because everything about it is good- the story line, the choices to make, and how it doesn’t get boring, but some choices can take a long time, and going back in the story can get annoying at times.
