Behind the Spectacle of Almond Blossom
Almond Blossom is a weekend full of fun experiences and memories, but the details of how those experiences and memories go unnoticed. From the many workers such as the police officers enforcing the city, to the city workers making sure the city is clean and works efficiently, Ripon becomes an entirely new city during the Almond Blossom weekend.
Mayor Leo Zuber states that, “The City supports the Chamber of Commerce’s efforts by providing police services for things like traffic control and security.” Sergeant Meece agrees with this statement by also saying, “during large events, we increase our staff based on historic need combined with changes in various venues and additional festival related activities. Should we fail do to so, we can fall short on our commitment to the community.” Sergeant Meece also says that Ripon’s Explorer program helps assist with traffic control and maintain a high visibility of an area.
Mayor Zuber also says, “Garbage collection and service support are sent where needed for things like power and water.” are very important during the weekend. “The City does all it can to make sure the event runs smoothly and visitors see our city in a positive light.”
Hundreds of people attend every year for both the parade and the festival, which brings a lot of attention to the city of Ripon. Mayor Zuber agrees that the people who visit the town of Ripon are good for the people. “We are a great community and it is good for others to see what we have to offer. A lot of visitors come to our downtown area for the parade and also see other parts of our town going to and from Mistlin Park.” Mayor Zuber then concludes by saying that the population increase during the weekend is something to manage by making sure the visitors have a pleasant visit and see the community.
