Cloud Macchiato are sure to make your day.

“It’s very tangy and I love the flavors, they’re just very refreshing.” Freshman Hannah Metal said.

As good as the new drinks may be there are some cons such as the price of them, which are normally around 4 dollars.

“They are amazing, the only con I can think of is that they are expensive,” said Freshman Mandy Veltkamp.

The newest of Starbucks’ cloud beverages, the “cloud” comes from the foam layer on top of the macchiato that contains egg whites for fluffiness, the Iced Cocoa Cloud Macchiato has espresso, milk and toffee nut syrup. It’s completed with both caramel and a mocha drizzle on top.

My aunt liked this drink, but wouldn’t say she loved it. The cloud foam on this one threw her off a bit. The amount of foam was pretty significant, so it made sipping it a challenge to balance the foam and the coffee portion. Slow and steady sips won the race. She thought the egg white powder would be weird, but she couldn’t taste it at all.

The cold brew version is also a good way to avoid some of the calories in the classic Pumpkin Spice Latte, with the former having 250 per 16 fluid ounces to the latter’s 380. The Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte, which is a different drink, has 370 calories per 16 fluid ounces.

The Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew is made with Starbucks® Cold Brew, vanilla, a pumpkin cream cold foam on top that has real pumpkin in it, and some sprinkled pumpkin spice topping to balance it out. At first my mom just tasted the cold brew, no pumpkin. If your straw is fully in the cup, you don’t taste the pumpkin at all, it’s literally just classic cold brew. Then she just lifted by straw to try the foam alone, and the pumpkin cream was actually so good. It was light and creamy, but also rich-tasting, with some good froth and a sweet pumpkin flavor that wasn’t overwhelmingly sweet.

It was way better than the Pumpkin Spice Latte, in my opinion, and it was easier and more practical to sip on and probably to pair with treats, like a pumpkin scone, since it tasted more like coffee than a festive drink. There are 250 calories in a grande and 31 grams of sugar in this Starbucks drink, so not too great for you.

So if you are cutting down on calories but still want to experience the amazing flavor of pumpkin Starbucks drinks then try the Iced Cocoa Cloud Macchiato. If you want to splurge a bit then go for the Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew.
