What’s Wrong With Being Confident?
A feeling of self-assurance arising from people’s appreciation of their own abilities or qualities informs how people behave every single day. Having too much confidence can make people cocky and arrogant. Not having enough confidence affects people’s performance negatively. Confidence is a direct reflection of someone’s performance and attitude.
People can get reckless with their confidence and it affects their thoughts towards a game or performance.
“It can be bad if I have too much confidence and have the thought process of things being too easy in a game,” said freshman water polo player Kennedy Brubaker.
When people have too much confidence, they get the mindset that they don’t have to work as hard for something which can become a disadvantage.
Even in some of the most difficult situations however, everyone needs some degree of confidence or things will never work out.
“When I did my first play, I was really nervous because it was my first time ever and I didn’t even have a speaking part,” said freshman Gabbi Martin.
Realizing how nervous you are and acknowledging it can help enhance confidence in yourself to perform.
“I think we have to be prepared for every game. You never really know until the game how it’s gonna unfold,” said football coach and teacher Chris Musseman.
People have to go into every situation with the same amount of confidence. If certain situations are treated with ease they won’t be done right. Confidence is something that has to be balanced well and carefully thought out.
Confidence is one of the things people need just the right amount of in order for it to be beneficial. If people have too much confidence, they become prideful and egotistical. Not having enough confidence makes people shy and unwilling to do anything with the hope that they will succeed. The author of Peter Pan, J.M. Barrie, believes people must have at least some amount of confidence in order to succeed: “The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease forever to be able to do it.”
