Ripon High Students and Faculty Missing School

Students have been out of the classroom for eight weeks resulting in them staying home and do online school rather than attending school. Since the stay at home order, many lives have been adjusted and take some getting used to. Many students who didn’t like going to school miss attending, not because of the homework and tests given out to us, but the people that made our school days better.

“I prefer regular school because I get to see my friends and I am forced to learn instead of getting distracted by my phone and not doing any work,” freshman Kade Nelson states.

While others, on the opposing side prefer online school. This is because they don’t have to wake up early in the morning and get ready for the day, rather they can sleep in and do their schoolwork later in the day.

I miss teaching so much. I miss the constant interaction with my students the most and also, I miss being around my colleagues who share my passion of teaching

“Yes I miss school because I like seeing my friends but I like homeschooling better because you get to do other things like sleeping in rather than going to school every day and sitting in a classroom all day,” freshman Zoey Baragon says.

When asking students what they miss the most about going to school, there were many different reasons. Some miss their friends and some missing school because they miss the routine. The outbreak of COVID-19 and students having to do online schooling causes seniors to miss out on their fun school events.

“Because of quarantine the senior activities are all canceled and that’s disappointing and all, but it isn’t that upsetting when you put it into perspective and realize that there are people dying from this or losing their livelihoods and all I’m losing is a ceremony,” senior Carmen Simon states.

Even teachers miss school! As they might not miss lesson planning and having to teach for multiple hours, they miss seeing their students

“I miss teaching so much. I miss the constant interaction with my students the most and also, I miss being around my colleagues who share my passion of teaching,” Ripon High teacher Mrs. Ochoa states.
