Volleyball is a combination of speed, strategy, and teamwork. Our Ripon High girls Varsity team accomplished all those skills on Sept.26 against Escalon. They worked together to give the crowd an entertainment game. During the first set Ripon managed to get many killer hits and serves making it complicated for Escalon to receive and make good passes. The final score was 25-19
Senior Katelyn Bogetti states, “I feel like my overall performance was good, I played very calm which is important during these big rival games.”
The second set the Indians got too comfortable and allowed Escalon to get some points in. That did not last very long as the ladies started to fight back and gain some points. They fixed their strategies and changed their mindsets allowing them to take the win. This set was very intense as it ended in 25-23.
Sophomore Alayna Sprinkles states, “I think during the second set we fell off a little bit mentally and we started turning on eachother but I really like how we turned that around and started playing together, and we came back. ”
The third set was very exhilarating considering it would determine if the Indians would put another win under their belts or go to another set. The outside hitters are jumping up high into the air, their arms extended back, ready to spike the ball over the net. Bogetti perfectly sets the ball and with the powerful swing. Boom! Ripon gains another point. The final score was 25-13. The dedication led Ripon to victory.
Sophomore Jorie Eskes states, “I was focussing on preparing myself mentally and physically on how to be positive, encouraging, and have a strong mentality”
Our ladies worked very well together to defeat our rivals, Escalon. The defense was also very alert whenever the ball would go over. They received every ball, dove for everything, and were very quick on their feet.
Senior Emeri Lane states, “ Our team really came together in the end, and we pulled it together.”
Lane states that some advice for other players is “To stay positive and when you make mistakes it’s one of thousands of mistakes you’ll make in volleyball, and with mistakes being made you’re able to learn and improve.”
Good Job ladies! We cannot wait to see how far you guys make it this season!
