An intense hometown rivalry match up with Ripon High gave Ripon Christian High their first loss in two years on April 16, 2026. This was quite the feat for Ripon as they pushed through the match with hard work and determination. The results of this dramatic match came down to a 5-4 win, with doubles pair Molly Berger and Abby Douglas, claiming the final point for Ripon High in the deciding match.
The two schools have played each other earlier in the TVL season with RC winning each time. This loss fueled Ripon leading to high energy and concentration in achieving their ultimate goal of victory.
Senior Maxwell Ferrel states, “This was probably the most energized I’ve ever been throughout a match. I was just in a good mood and I played great.”
Pressure could be felt from the match as these rivals stayed focused. The momentum of the game was very present as the players worked for every point and victory they could.
One phenomenal doubles team were Senior Molly Berger and Sophomore Abby Douglas, who won the final point in a very physical and extreme match.
Berger states, “It makes me actually feel really happy because I’m really proud of myself and Abby that we both came through. It was just really exciting and the feeling that we were the reason we won.”
While Douglas and Berger did get the final point making it 5-4, they also recognized the importance of the whole team and how they would not have gotten there if it had not been for the wins of their fellow teammates and their hard work. While there are single players and double teams, they ultimately come together as they cheer and encourage each other.
This high pressure game signaled the end of Ripon Christian’s two year undefeated streak and a rematch can be looked forward to as it has been seen that both teams are capable of winning.
