This year, Ripon Track and Field has been having an exceptionally great season. With this great season, there are exceptional meets like the meet on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. On that sunny Wednesday afternoon Ripon versed Escalon in a TVL dual meet. The final score of the meet was Ripon beating Escalon in both men’s and women’s varsity.
If you were to ask anyone in the stands of the meet what one of the highlights of the meet was, without a doubt they would say getting to watch a new 200 meter record being set. William Whole, only a junior at Ripon High, set the new school record for the 200m dash with a time of 22.36 seconds; a huge moment as the record hadn’t been broken since 2007!
For 20 years the time of 22.4 had remained until this faithful Wednesday Whole broke it. Whole comments on breaking the record, “I was ecstatic, I didn’t even know I broke the record at first then someone told me I did and I got really happy. I really wanted to win, I just got that mentality in my mind that I just wanted to keep pushing.”
Whole is ranked 1st in RHS’s men’s varsity for the 100m, 200m, and 400m, and everyone knows he will do even more great things later on. When he was asked about his future goals for this season Whole states, “I’m going to try and break the 400 record so I have two records in a year and hopefully I can break my own record again but that’s going to be harder.”

This track meet was also senior night, honoring the seniors who make the team so great. Some of these seniors have stuck with track for all four years, and it has become a central part of their lives so it is so important to honor the new chapter that is ahead for them.
Congratulations on Liam for making RHS history, the seniors for graduating, and congratulations to Ripon HIgh Track and Field for having a great season!
