As the girls’ basketball season came to a close, senior night arrived to celebrate the team’s graduating athletes. Senior night is a night to honor hard work and dedication throughout their years on this team. On Feb. 7, the RHS girls basketball team played against Sonora, winning 32-25. However, before the girls began their warmups, the seniors all lined up on the side of the court, commencing their senior night. As their names were announced, they walked onto the court with their loved ones, with cheers and smiles filling the gym.
Senior Leila Sanchez has been playing basketball for RHS since she was a freshman, and she has been able to make so many memories and create various relationships with her fellow athletes and coaches.
Sanchez says, “Basketball has made my high school experience so much more enjoyable, and I was so sad knowing the end of my season was nearing.”
Even though leaving your fellow teammates behind can bring some mixed emotions, good memories were created, and long lasting relationships were formed.
Senior Danika Escola has also been playing for RHS since her freshman year, and she’s grateful that she’s had an opportunity to play for this team and these girls. It has helped her get more involved in high school and have bonding moments with those around her.
“I wasn’t sad because it wasn’t our last game, but it hit me that basketball was almost over for me. I’m going to miss my teammates and coaches, as well the overall feeling of just playing the game.” Escola says.
All of the seniors on the RHS girls’ basketball team have put so much effort and time into their season. Their great relationships with each other have helped them with their communication and trust on and off the court. Good job to the RHS girls’ basketball team this season, and good luck to the seniors on their journey ahead!
