CSF Tours CSU Stanislaus and UC Merced

The California Scholarship Federation club at Ripon High School visited CSU Stanislaus and UC Merced on November 16, 2016. This was a good opportunity for academically successful and stable students to think about their upcoming life at college.

The adviser of CSF is Mr. Velasco, a PE and training teacher at RHS. He likes CSF because, “We push kids to go to college and stress academics.”

Students join CSF to give them something more for colleges to look at.

When asked what sophomore Hailey Bogetti thought about the trip, she said, “I really liked it because it opens you up to new colleges and it helps me know what my options are.” This trip CSF approached universities nearby for students that end up staying close to home.

Mr. Velasco was asked how he felt about the trip to which he replied, “It was successful. They were campuses we haven’t gone to.” New and nearby campuses were chosen for this trip.

Students like CSF and think it is beneficial for them. Sophomore Maci Herrin stated, “ It’s a good club to let you know the different kinds of colleges there are and the options they give.” It gives an opportunity to see what one is interested in and what they would like to pursue.

She also said, “You get the gold tassel at graduation, and I like going on trips to see what the colleges need.” Being a CSF member all four years awards a gold tassel at graduation to allow students to be recognized.

Going on trips helps students and starts them on the path to college. Sophomore Hailey Bogetti stated, “I need to start thinking about college, and it’s getting me on the right track of where I would want to pursue my academic career.” CSF is a helpful club to students that gives benefits in the long-run.

CSF also has future plans for this year. Mr. Velasco informed that, “ We [CSF] are taking another trip in the spring. We are also going to try to increase the number of students in CSF.” He believes that the more students that are in the club, the more people can receive the benefits of being in the club.

Mr. Velasco believes, “You should do CSF because it is a great opportunity to visit colleges, get a gold tassel, and be recognized as top students.” This club looks good to colleges because only students that are academically acceptable to the conditions of the club are accepted.

Mr. Velasco and students at Ripon High School believe CSF is a helpful club, and they also enjoyed this year’s first trip to CSU Stanislaus and UC Merced. Mr. Velasco likes being the adviser for the club and thinks the club’s members are great. “CSF consists of hardworking individuals.”
