Take me Back to Winter Break

Winter break for many means getting away from home and going on family or friend trips. According to AAA news, one in three Americans were expected to travel this past holiday season, making it the highest on record.

A few Ripon High seniors had the opportunity to go out of state and enjoy warm and sunny weather in other states, as some seniors had the opportunity to go enjoy the snow on the mountains.

Dallas Waters and his father went to La Saladita, a small town located on the beach in Mexico. La Saladita is known for its great surf and is away from the tourist attractions, which was exactly what Waters and his father seeked. Waters also went snorkeling at a coral reef.

It was one of the most important fun weeks ever and I loved being immersed in Mexican culture while being able to surf some amazing waves

Planning for future trips, senior B’elanna Morriss stated, “ I am going to New York in July, but hope to visit Bora Bora and Italy.”

Felicia Miller went to Incline Village in Nevada to visit family. Felicia Miller was able to ski and snowboard, all while driving all the way there and back.

“It was eventful, I don’t enjoy cold weather so next time I will go somewhere warm, but on our way back we got stuck in the storm so there was a whole bunch of snow. The worst part was the roads reopening after being closed for 24 hours because I had to go to school,” senior Felicia Miller stated reflecting on her trip.

Trips near and far from home teach and expose each and everyone to new people, information, and experiences. Small breaks throughout the school time allows some to experience amazing trips and experiences that they would not want to exchange for anything else.

“I recommend that other students should get out of their comfort zone and go to new places while they have time off. Take advantage of your time off because it’s very limited. Travel to wherever you can, close or far because you can learn, close or far because you can learn so much and create lasting memories,” senior Dallas Waters advised.
