Ripon High has multiple festivities every year, and every year, they are bigger and better! To make Winterfest different from the last requires countless hours of work. Ripon High’s Leadership team puts in countless hours during and after school to put on the amazing Winterfest.
Winterfest occurred on the week of January 28. It consisted of music-themed dress-up days, grocery cart decorating, poster-making, and of course a rally. There was a competition of spirit points for each class, and the juniors came first in overall spirit points for Winterfest!
“People need to understand how adaptable we have to be in tough decisions [in] order to get events like these done,” sophomore Niki Nguyen said.
The natural occurrence of life is that something is always bound to go wrong. Planning an event as a group of high schoolers is constantly a learning process. They learn from things going wrong and making difficult decisions to get the event going on time. The Leadership team works together to make a plan and execute it, which may be harder than it sounds with the daily obstacles and deadlines they have to work with.
“It [Winterfest] was definitely something that took up most of my mind that week,” junior Ana Perez said.
Planning many events for an entire week is more than time-consuming, it is mind devouring. The Leadership students spent most of every spare second they had to make posters or planning to make sure the festivities would be perfect. Many students were so involved that they were even late to their classes, making sure they finished the task they were assigned.
“We would stay up late planning and decorating, but when it was all finished and done, it was worth the hard work and time,” freshman Annie Wood said.
