Many of our staff here at RHS have honored America with their service in the military. The military consists of the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps., and the Navy.

Well, my experiences in the military, I did a lot of stuff that I never really even realized I was capable of doing. So, I would say that it allows me to push myself harder and I have far more discipline because of the military.

The Army Instructor, Sergeant First Class Retired Robert Randall,  for our JROTC program here served in the Army. He was an artillery radar operator, he tracked where enemies shot rockets and either attacked the enemy or shot artillery back and blew the position up. He also was a narcotics officer and a DARE officer, meaning he taught anti drug prevention to high school and middle school students and worked to prevent drugs from being smuggled across the border.

“I became a teacher because, when I was in high school, I joined JROTC and I knew what it did for me and having the support of the instructors I wanted to give that back. [I want to] Be able to help students decide what they want their life to be after high school,” said Randall.

Our Senior Army Instructor, Lieutenant Colonel retired David Schmith also served in the military. His primary role as an officer was a helicopter pilot, however he also worked logistics, human resources, operations, and he was a commander.

“For me, joining the military delayed a lot of life decisions, and it’s not true for everybody, but for me and the way I pursued it, I delayed marriage, I delayed parenthood, but I’m happy with the way it worked out for me,” said Schmith.

Our beloved English teacher Mrs. Vasche also served in the army, when she left the army her rank was an E4 or a specialist. She was a combat medic, her job was to fly into the front lines and give support or pull out injured troops.

“Well, my experiences in the military, I did a lot of stuff that I never really even realized I was capable of doing. So, I would say that it allows me to push myself harder and I have far more discipline because of the military. So I can use that to get to my goals and be more disciplined and not get off track and things like that,” said Vasche.

Overall, these teachers have contributed to the wonderful act of keeping our country safe. We sincerely thank them for all of their sacrifice and the experiences that they have been through.
