Have you ever walked into a class expecting another normal day, only to find a teacher who instantly makes the room feel lighter, calmer, and somehow more interesting? That’s exactly the kind of energy Profe Ruiz brings to Ripon High. Whether students are practicing new vocabulary, watching videos, or learning about different cultures, she creates an environment where learning feels natural and fun.
Profe Ruiz didn’t always plan on becoming a Spanish teacher, though she always loved languages. “I’ve always loved languages and culture, and I wanted to help students connect with Spanish in a meaningful way,” she shared. She says watching students gain confidence as they communicate in a new language is one of her favorite parts of teaching. Even though teaching was on her mind, it wasn’t her first career idea. Ruiz admitted, “At first, I wanted to be a flight attendant because I loved the idea of traveling a lot.” But everything changed when she worked as a Spanish tutor in college. Helping students understand the language made her realize how much she enjoyed teaching. “I realized how much I enjoyed helping others learn…” Around that moment, she was set on the path she’s on today.
Her journey to becoming a Spanish teacher truly took shape during college. After completing her Spanish coursework at Stanislaus State, she began her master’s program at Sacramento State with the original plan of teaching at the college level. But that shifted when she received her first teaching opportunity right here in Ripon. She taught Spanish to 4th–8th graders and loved it. “Working with the older grades helped me develop my teaching style and confirmed that teaching Spanish was the right career path for me,” she explained.
Outside the classroom, Ruiz has a full life with plenty of hobbies that keep her busy. She explains, “I enjoy hiking with my fiancé, spending time with friends at coffee shops, and going to the beach on long weekends.” Her love for the outdoors and staying active helps balance the long days of teaching and planning.
When it comes to giving advice to students, Profe Ruiz keeps it honest and encouraging. “Believe in yourselves even when things feel challenging…” She reminds students that growth is slow but worth it. “Consistency and effort truly pay off. Always seek help when you need it and don’t be afraid to ask for guidance and support.”
With her kindness, enthusiasm, and passion for the Spanish language, Profe Ruiz continues to make a difference in every classroom she steps into, one lesson, one conversation, and one student at a time.
