Max Akin, Keller Fossil Ridge quarterback, gave his homecoming crown to his friend, K.L. Norwood on Friday, Sep 9.

“My favorite quarterback right here,” said K.L. Norwood.

Max Akin is a lot of people’s favorite quarterback. Both Max Akin and Team Equipment Manager K.L. Norwood were nominated for the Homecoming crown, but Akin was awarded the crown.

Akin decided that Norwood, who has cerebral palsy, was more deserving of the title than he was.

“I think it should’ve gone to the person who positively uplifts the school and everybody around him,” Akin said, “and that person is K.L., for sure.”

After Max Akin was given the crown, he promptly removed it and placed on Norwood’s head.

“I didn’t know when I would have the right time to do it,” the quarterback said. “But I saw K.L., came over and gave him a hug, and I knew that he wanted that crown more than anything.”

The story went viral online with pictures being shared across social media. Both Norwood and Akin were even invited on Ellen, and were given $10,000 each.

The moment will be something they look back on as a memorable moment in their long friendship.

“I thought it was the best hearing them chant K.L.’s name right after halftime, and I know he liked that, too,” Akin said. “Everybody was going wild for him. Everybody loves K.L. at this school.”
