Girls Varsity Basketball Foundation Game vs. Manteca High

The Ripon High School girls varsity basketball team took on Manteca High School to start off the season with their foundation game. The game was a tough and close game with the ending score being 56-52 with Manteca winning.

The varsity team was looking forward to playing Manteca but were a little nervous as well. Although, they were really pumped up during the game, one of the reasons being that there was an exciting audience.

Freshman Reina Sausedo, who is a starter on the varsity team, said, “During the game, I was getting pumped up because the audience was encouraging. Even though we were down by 12 points, the audience helped us get back into the game.” Reina Sausedo was the top scorer with 17 points.

Ripon’s student section cheered for the game and were very supportive. One of the team’s main defensive players is Junior Kayla Jacklich, who is also the ASB president.

When asked how she felt about her performance she said, “I felt like I did my part as the front defensive player, but there is always room for improvement.”

Overall, this game was helpful for the Ripon team and gave them an idea of how this season is going to be for them. Kayla Jacklich stated, “I think playing that hard of a team showed that we are going to be strong this season. We have really good chances of going undefeated this season. I’m really excited.”

Manteca High was a competitive and challenging team to play. Reina Sausedo also stated, “The Manteca High players seemed to be experienced and athletic. I felt pretty confident because we were able to stick with them.”

The girls played hard and had a competitive foundation game. Kayla Jacklich said, “It was a loss, but it was a good loss.”img_0417 img_0409
