This Friday, November 21, 2025, our school said goodbye to a teacher who has been part of this campus for 20 years. He has taught, coached, supported, and inspired students in ways that have shaped and defined the culture of our school.
He has held so many important roles during the years he has spent here. He coached cross country, pushing runners early morning practices and tough meets; he coached basketball, teaching players to work together and stay focused and confident even in the toughest games; and he coached tennis, encouraging athletes at all levels and making the sport feel welcoming. These are a few of the portions he dedicated himself to, and each one has left an indelible mark upon the students fortunate enough to learn from him.
What made him so special to our school wasn’t just how long he was here; it was because of how he treated people. He made time for students in need, encouraged athletes when they didn’t think they could get any better, and always pushed them to be better than they were the day before. One of his former students, Grace Jang, states, “Mayfield always had that attitude where we could always improve, this not only fueled us to become better but it changed our perspective and our work ethic. Because of him and his impact, we were able to create a safe environment in class while still reaching for that goal of success. Not only in class, but as a coach, he was always supportive no matter what happened.” He brought energy into practices, patience into the classroom, and a positive attitude that made our school feel like a better place.
As he moves on, we know he’ll continue to make a difference, just as he did here. We are very grateful for all he has done: for every lesson taught, every practice run, every pep talk, every moment he chose to believe in his students.
Thank you for all the amazing years you have taught at our school. We will miss you, and we wish you the very best in this next chapter.
